Come be Baptist with us!

come be Baptist with us!
singing, we take the low road
we are all of us priests, picture that

we are southern and northern
we are clappers and stompers
Sunday and Wednesday we are prayer meeting
potluck eating neighbor greeting death cheating
we are all of us priests

we are fundies and libster card-carriers
and all the Bible leafing thumbing thumping loving in between
we are gleaming temples, wooden shacks
tipplers and teetotalers
handsitters, jitterbuggers
we are all priests

come join us
we can be Baptist together!
God has autographed every spot on our dance card
and it's a big dance, a barn dance, a rafter-shaking circle dance
and we whisper shout holler praise, welcome you in
we black white tan colorful loving Baptists
we priests

the napowrimo challenge a few days ago was to write an ad. I'm behind on the challenges but after leading a Passover seder Monday night and thinking and talking about religious identity I had to come back to this piece I had started a few days earlier. I may even have won myself over again!
